As you all may know, I run the "That Kodocha Girl" channel on YouTube. For almost 4 years now, I've been consistently making videos on Kodocha - about the anime, manga, and more, with a heavy focus on analysis. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would get over 4k subscribers, and meet all the amazing people I did through this project that I didn't think I'd still be doing today.
I created my channel to share my thoughts and love for Kodocha. I am still incredibly passionate about the series, and plan on creating videos and content about it for as long as I can.
However, things are about to change.
Through all the work I've put into on this channel, I've discovered just how much I enjoy creating videos in general. I've been inspired by the friends I've made in the animanga community in so many ways. They've helped me up my editing game and given me pointers on how to structure my videos better. These friendships along with healthy changes in my personal life have helped me gain a lot of confidence as a person and creator. So now, I think it's time to put that newfound confidence to use!
What Changes are Happening?
Honestly, not THAT much. I still plan to make Kodocha videos like I mentioned above, but there will be less of a focus on it. I would like to create more videos about different animanga series, particularly shoujo, and even talk about other interests I have outside of that if I want to. I initially made the channel as a space to nerd out about Kodocha, and I will still retain that energy, just about different topics more frequently.
More Shoujosei Content
I would like to talk about other shoujosei series that made an impact on me. Not only are a lot of my favorite series of this demographic, but my other goal for this is to bring more girl-centric content into the YouTube space that focuses more on analysis. I think there is a severe lack of this in the space currently and would like to use my writing and editing skills to help make a positive change.
For now, I'd like to talk about older series (90s-2000s specifically), but there will definitely be times when I will bring up new releases. The goal of the channel is series discussion and analysis, not news and updates. (Unless it relates to Kodocha, of course. And this will also be talked about on our
Kodocha Podcast as well!)
Another idea I had in mind that I might roll with if people like it enough is introducing a brand new video series I'd like to call "Shoujo Samplers". These videos will act as bite-sized introductions to notable shoujosei mangaka and a few of their most interesting works.
What Other Kinds of Videos are Coming?
Whatever I feel like making. General anime and manga, video games, a random cartoon I watched on Tubi, you name it. Anything that I feel brings a unique or personal perspective into the YouTube space.
Will You Still Call Yourself "That Kodocha Girl"?
For the time being, yes. I might also add "Ari" or "Arichan" to my channel name.
What About Your Other Social Media Pages?
Those will still primarily focus on Kodocha content - with Twitter/X being my other primary active location online, so this will probably more closely mirror the activity on my YouTube channel.
The Future of This Blog
This blog will still continue to be irregularly updated. It will serve as a space for topics I don't quite feel deserve a full length video.
So that's about it for this big announcement! Thank you all for your kindness and support over the years, and let's keep enjoying anime and manga together! 💖
